Chase Travel℠ or Transfer Partner Bookings
Transferring credit card points can feel overwhelming at first but with a few tips and tricks it can be a great tool to use and help you get more for your points.

Chase Travel℠
The easiest and most basic point redemption is using the Chase travel portal. You can book flights, hotels, care rentals and more right in the travel portal.
Using Ultimate Rewards Points in the Chase Travel Portal
First thing is that certain Chase credit card points are worth different amounts when redeemed in the Chase travel portal. Most Chase cards are a 1:1 rate which means 1 point per 1 cent. Here are a few exceptions.
- Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card has a redemption rate of 1.25 cents per point in the travel portal
- Chase Sapphire Reserve® has a redemption rate of 1.5 cents per point in the travel portal
- Chase Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card has a redemption rate of 1.25 cents per point in the travel portal
Should I use the Chase Travel Portal?
It’s really an individual decision and usually changes for each situation! Nice, right? Unfortunately no one can answer this but you.
Chase Travel Portal Pros
First of all it’s easy! This is the biggest pro by far in my book. If you are just beginning and want to hit the easy button then by all means use the travel portal.
Another big pro is that any flight booked through the portal is completely free when paid with points. If you transfer your points to an airline that’s a partner with Chase you will pay for taxes and fees, so remember that.
This might be a minor one, but if you book a flight through the Chase portal you will still earn miles and status with the airline unlike if you transfer the points out to the airline.
Short on points? You can pay with some points and some cash if you’d like in the travel portal instead of using all points or all cash.
Chase Travel Portal Cons
The biggest con in my book is that when you book through the Chase travel portal it’s essentially like booking with a third party like Expedia. If you have any problems with your trip like a flight cancellation you will not be able to deal with the airline directly you will need to deal with Chase.
The other con is that redeeming the points through Chase is completely price based. This means if the retail rate of the travel is $100 you will always need 10,000 points. If you transfer the points out to a partner a lot of the time you can get better redemptions. We always recommend checking the point price in the portal and also the amount of points needed when transferring to the partner and decided what one works best for you!
Things to Remember
The first thing I always make sure people know is that there is no WRONG way to redeem your points. Do what works for you, travel and make memories.
Don’t stress about getting the best redemption with bragging rights. You know what’s best for your situation so make the vacation happen however it works for you!
Another thing to remember is if you transfer points out of Chase it’s a one way street. You can NOT transfer them back to Chase. So double check availability, points needed etc. before you transfer. If you cancel a reservation they will be refunded to that transfer partner and be stuck there.
