One of our favorite first credit cards to add to your wallet is the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card. It’s perfect for anyone who wants flexible miles plus high value perks. Even with the $395 annual fee it’s a no-brainer to have because the luxe benefits easily outweigh the annual fee.

This was the second credit card we added to our travel credit card stash because it has amazing benefits! If you are nervous about the $395 annual fee its quickly offset with the benefits of this card like a $300 annual travel credit, airport lounge access, cell phone protection and more.
We like to add this to our wallet early when using credit card miles to earn free travel because Capital One can be a bit finicky on approvals if you have to many credit inquiries, so keep that in mind when choosing which card to apply for next.
Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card Highlights
- $300 annual travel credit when booking through Capital One’s portal
- 10,000 account anniversary miles
- Statement credit for either Global Entry or TSA Precheck
- Airport Lounge Access for your entire family
- Cell Phone Protection
- Miles can be redeemed to reimburse yourself for travel purchases
- Miles can also be transferred to more than 15+ transfer partners like Jet Blue, Wyndham, Avianca, Turkish Airways and more.
Annual Travel Credit
We love this annual travel credit of $300, but it must be redeemed in the Capital One portal. We use this for car rentals or hotels that are off the beaten path and won’t count towards any elite statuses. Simply book in the travel portal and you’ll get a credit on your booking, so easy to use and offset that pesky annual fee.
You can book flights, hotels and rental cars in the portal, but this credit expires after a year so make sure you use it up!
10K venture Miles
Every year you pay your annual fee you will be credited 10,000 Venture Miles which a the minimum has a $100 value. Now your annual fee is at $0 between the Annual Travel Credit and then 10,000 bonus miles!
Everyday Spending Card
This is the card I pull out of my wallet for everyday spending when I’m not working towards a sign up bonus or the category doesn’t fall into a bonus category on another card because it earns 2x miles on everything!!
Bonus Earning Rates
This card does offer some bonus categories for earning in the Capital One Travel portal.
- 10x Venture miles on hotels and rental cars booked via Capital One Travel
- 5x Venture miles on flights booked via Capital One Travel
Airport Lounge Access
One of the great extra benefits of the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card is that it comes with complimentary Priority Pass Lounge Access, Plaza Premium Lounge Access and access to their very own Capital One Lounges. The only card with better lounge benefits is the American Express Platinum, so if you are looking for a card with lounge access this is the one to get.
If you add up all the money you can save on eating and drinking in a lounge (usually for free!) this makes this card a moneymaker. It even includes credit at select airport restaurants that take Priority Passes.
Travel Insurance Benefits
If you by a plane ticket with the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card you can receive up to $2,000 per eligible person for the nonrefundable common carrier ticket.
I’m sure you are wondering what “an eligible person” is? It includes the cardholder, your spouse or domestic partner and you dependent children. If you charge the entire cost of the trip to your card or redeemed your miles earned from this card they will be covered.
The trip cancellation and interruption insurance will only cover you and your immediately family members in the following scenarios. There are some excluded situations.
- Death, accidental bodily injury, disease or physical illness.
- Default of the common carrier resulting from financial insolvency.
The trip delay reimbursement is if you experience a flight delay of at least 6 hours or requiring an overnight stay. If this happens you can receive up to $500 per eligible person for reasonable expenses incurred such as hotel rooms, meals and more.
If you rent an eligible vehicle with this card it does included rental car coverage that is primary coverage in the United States and abroad. Learn more about rental car insurance here.
Other Benefits
We mentioned a few other benefits in our highlights like the TSA Precheck or Global Entry credit that you can get every 4 years up to $100.
If you pay your cell phone bill with this card it offers $800 cell phone protection if it is damaged or stolen. It applies to all lines on the bill. There is a $50 deductible and you can use the benefit twice per 12 month period.
