What is a transfer bonus?
Simply put a credit card transfer bonus for points and miles is a temporary promotion offered by credit card issuers to incentivize you to move your points or miles from their program to a specific airline or hotel loyalty program. Usually you can transfer points and miles to transfer partners at a 1:1 ratio. During a transfer bonus they give you bonuses on the 1:1 ratio. For example a 25% transfer bonus would mean you get 1.25 points or miles for every 1 point you transfer allowing to increase your points when you transfer and stretch them further!
What is a Sale on Credit Card Points?
If you didn't know this before we are here to tell you that you can buy points. While we don't recommend it sometimes it makes sense to do this especially when there are sales on credit card points. A lot of the time the best time to do this is when you need a few points to top off a stay.

Like I said previously we don't recommend doing this, but if you need a few more points to book a planned award ticket or room it can make sense. These are sold through a third party so that they won’t code as travel. Your best bet is to buy them with a Capital One card that earns 2 points per dollar spent.
Ask yourself these questions when you go to buy points and miles to see if it makes sense:
- Do I need a few extra points to top off an award stay or flight?
- Is it cheaper to pay the cash rate or buy the points and redeem them for a free stay?
