Why We Love the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
Over and over again we tell everyone that asks to get the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card as a their first travel points credit card. It’s one of the best credit cards to have in your wallet and brings a lot of benefits. Here’s why we love it so much!

There are so many reasons to grab the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card as your first or one of your first credit cards when using points to travel. Below we give you a quick overview of why we consider this one of the most valuable cards to have in your wallet!
Sign Up Bonus
The basic Sign Up Bonus brings you $750+ in free travel. If that’s not amazing I don’t know what is! Simply hit your minimum spending bonus of $4,000 in the first three moths and you’ll get 60,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points. These points are worth 1.25 cents each so you get a minimum of $750 in free travel with the sign up bonus.
If you transfer points you could get a value of 2 cents or more per point, which would equal out to $1,200 or more in free travel!
Easy to Redeem
There’s two different ways to redeem your points. They are directly through the Chase Travel℠ or through transfer partners.
The easiest is through the Chase Travel℠ where you will will get a redemption rate of 1.25 cents per point. Simply log in and start redeeming. It’s super simple!
Our favorite way to redeem them is through transfer partners. We find you can get a lot more value this way. Some of the transfer partners included Southwest, United, Hyatt etc.
Either way you choose to go is the best way. Remember to use those points not to hoard them!
Bonus Spending Categories
You will always get 1 point per dollar spent, but we love the bonus categories the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card brings to the table. Any travel you pay for using this card is 2X points. Things like hotels, airfare, rental cars and even paying for parking or an Uber!
My favorite is the 3X points on dining, so anytime you eat out you are tripling the points!
Travel Benefits
One of the easiest benefit this card comes with is the $50 Hotel Benefit. You simply book a hotel through Chase Travel℠ and you will receive $50 credit on your statement. We like to use this benefit when we are traveling somewhere and a hotel doesn’t have a great rewards redemption program or want to stay in a more boutique type of hotel. There are tons of hotels in the Chase Travel Portal!
If you are traveling abroad there are no transaction fees which is huge. This saves you a 3% fee a lot of cards will have on transaction fees abroad.
Waive that rental car coverage when you pay with this card for your rental car. Primary car rental insurance is covered when you pay for the rental car with this card which saves you $15-30 per day.
Other great benefits included trip delay, trip cancellation and baggage delay insurance, which is so helpful in moments you need it!
Flexible Points
I can not say enough about this! The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card allows you to transfer points to its partners. We love the flexibility this offers. Instead of having a Hyatt Card and having points that you can only use at Hyatt you have a card with points that can be transferred to Hyatt, Southwest Airlines, United and more making them so flexible and easy to use! Plus, transferring them out usually gets you a better redemption rate.
Combine Points
Another thing we think that’s pretty great is you combine other Chase Credit Card points onto this one so you can use them at the transfer partners on the Sapphire. This is a huge plus and so easy to do online!
The Wrap Up
This is an excellent, versatile card that everyone should always have in your wallet. From the great Sign Up Bonus, Transfer Partners and more it’s so valuable. Make sure you get it as one of your first cards because it will take up a 5/24 slot.
